What is configuration management?

Configuration management is a procedure for sustaining computer systems, servers, and application software in a compatible state. It's a way to make sure that a system executes as expected.

Configuration management (CM) covers the mechanism and procedure used to command, synchronize and track code, essential, documentation, issues, change in demands, designs, implements, compilers, libraries, patches, changes made to them and who makes the changes.
